🎀 What Makes Something "Preppy" in Art?
There are a few things that best define preppy style when it comes to art. After studying it for many years, and teaching it to many students, I have refined the style, and made a few noticeable traits:
- Classic Color Palette: Predominantly made up of, and no more than 7 colors and light gold. Typically the colors are light pink, light blue, mint green, navy, and white.
- Clean Lines and Neat Presentation: Always go for clean and intentional lines, rather than styles that are messy and overly abstract
- Expensive or Sophisticated Items: Consider using designer materials, or upscale sophisticated art supplies, accessories, or lifestyle.
- Academic and Athletic Elements: Think varsity letters, plaid patterns, ribbon details, and collegiate-inspired motifs.
- Feminine and Delicate Details: Bows, pearls, ribbons, and floral accents appear frequently in preppy drawings.
Understanding these elements will help you create authentic preppy artwork that captures this beloved aesthetic perfectly!
